firefly

firefly

A Poem by Mia Sparrow

as the moon creeps over the horizon

fiery hued skies succumb to nightfall.

we watch the fireflies arise

from grass still warm by

the setting sun

blinking in orchestration

like starboard markers

guiding vessels to safety.

their flickering light draws their mates

as crickets woo with wings outstretched.

the fragrance of evening blooms

occasion languorous sighs.

summer evening’s harmony

indulges our senses

as Horologium’s pendulum

pauses in the moments

before moonrise.

nature reveals itself to us

and vouchsafes an inviolable  bond.
