"You don't understand"

If a child says you don't understand here's what they're going through.

We go through a lot
More than you can understand
Most of this you've probably went through
But it's different, cuz that was then and this is now
We're going through what you went through but our problem is more evolved
We go through being sick, grades, pressure of life, loss of friends, loss of time and tons more

Great idea for a poem!

I am a teacher and a new father, but I don't feel "old" yet. This connects for me because I am your target audience! The person in authority who thinks they are still young enough to understand, but old enough to know better.

But your idea here is that it isn't totally possible. It's arrogant for adults to assume they understand being "in" the experience because they had it a long time ago.

My favorite phrase is "our problem is more evolved"

I'd love to see you elaborate on that more! I wonder what "pressure of life" means to you? What is "loss of time" to someone who is younger than me? How does the fear of "tons more" appear in your mind and heart?
