Scene 14 The Resolution

Scene 14 The Resolution

A Poem by Michael Howell
"

Prose? Short Story? Screenplay? I don't know!

"

SCENE opens on a lonely, forgotten boardwalk.  Light rain sprinkles the surrounding lake, which is laced lightly with red rock and choking weeds.  Enter MICHAEL, holding a sparkling silver chain, a heart pendant dangling from the bottom.  MICHAEL stares over the lake, not moving as the sun falls and the moon rises.  Nothing moves, save the reflection of the moon as it skims across the water.  MICHAEL's chest rises and falls, once.  He looks down at the pendant.  he drops it off the boardwalk.  It's suspended momentarily within the moon's reflection, then sinks soundlessly into the cold water.  MICHAEL lifts his head and closes his eyes.  He holds.  A crow flies over the lake and lets out a pealing caw.  MICHAEL opens his eyes.  And stares.  Slowly, MICHAEL turns and walks off the boardwalk, his footsteps trailing him onto the red rocks bathed in the blue of the moon.
