Locked Away

Locked Away

A Poem by Shaunta R. Edwards

 No knight in shining armor...

No Prince Charming...

Locked Away in my Lonely Tower

The wicked wicked Stepchild

Hands Tied Behind my Back

Inching for the Light...

But somehow never quite able to Reach it...

No Ball Room Gowns...

No Fairy Godmother

Locked Away behind the Bars of my own Mind

Mouth Taped Shut

Trying to escape my stale existence

But somehow never quite able to...

Reminds me of my own prison. One with many cells. Are we ever freed? Do we ever get to meet the light that's just outside- the light we reach for through our prison bars? Surely we hope to be rescued. But heroes exist in movies. Real life is full of villians. The villians that confine us to these cells. I don't think we can ever truly be free. Freedom is in constant motion, as is the glimmer we hope to obtain from it. One mans light allows him to see, while another mans light burns him down. The best we can hope for is to live in bigger cells. If we find the joys and pleasures in life we can build a bigger cell. Yet, the walls that bind them can never truly be broken.
