Civility

Civility

A Poem by Lovesleftovers

“Civility”

If America was a third world country
We’d organize revolt
We’d storm the White House halls
Grab Georgie by the balls

If we weren’t so damned polite
we’d challenge bureaucrats to a fight
Instead we pass the time
Squeezing pennies from each dime

We wait for gas prices to decrease
And for senseless war to cease
We wait and wait and wait
Wave picket signs while irate

If America was a third world realm
With activists at the helm
Revolution would be the call
Screaming justice for us all

But some world power would step in
And a new war would begin
Their economy would decline
They’d blame us all in time

So we’ll go back to the poll
While recession and war takes its toll
And pray the next four years
Aren’t as bleak as it appears

I'm not happy with the 5th verse...if anyone has suggestions I'd love to hear them. Thanks!
