Hey, it's me

Hey, it's me

A Poem by Nicole Hamilton
"

Loneliness

"

I forgot to tell you that at night when it’s really dark

I sit and speak to the spirits in my room-

We communicate through vibration

And the goosebumps on my arms.

I forgot to tell you how the knife slipped

While cutting an orange the other day;

blood dripped down my hand from the tip of my finger

until it didn’t anymore.

The juice was stinging,

The cut still hasn’t closed.

I forgot to tell you about him,

How we laid on the beach for hours

Teeth chattering, sand in our hair

Breathing in the ocean

until the pink sky stretched across the Earth;

The sun was up, I was happy.

I forgot to tell you about that time on my birthday

When I cried for hours on new white sheets

Puffy faced, sad dry eyes

because they all forgot,

I couldn't breathe that day-

There were nails in my lungs.

I forgot to tell you how sad I used to be,

Sitting in my bed watching Good Will Hunting

I wanted to be the moon-

To feel the pull of the universe,

I felt like the empty space between stars.

I forgot to tell you-

Not that you care

When the world is weighing on your mind,

I just haven't seen you in awhile

And i forgot
