the boogie man is bigger that ever

the boogie man is bigger that ever

A Poem by Nan
"

it's absurd, how the fear junkies tried to kill off American citizens

"

the boogie man is bigger than ever

having been bicycle pumped up in our minds

by Karl Rove and Sarah Palin

after the dumbing down of citizens via television

and passive, passive non-activity

we have become helpless to help ourselves

escape the one room in our minds

that signifies terror

I went to church and felt the presence of God

but the priest told me I was going to hell

then the boogie was after me again

And then some politician said "taxes" and I knew the boogie man

wasn't going to help me pay them so I talked with a guardian angel

and recited prayers of protection

she explained that boogies are only as big as we

let them become

who do I believe?

I like to be informed so the danger is plenty

but in my mind's eye is a little man

with a bicycle pump detonator

and I just let him blow my imagination to

bits sometimes

mushroom cloud

big long sigh

This is so thought-provoking. I know exactly what you mean: the propaganda and dominant or extremist ideological views can get to us all sometimes. The fear-mongers have a way of twisting all our minds to believing what they want us too. It's exactly the same here, of course, I mean the BBC is effectively government owned so sometimes its like Bellasconi's Italy, the Politicians have complete control of everything. Palin though, she was something else! And don't even get me started on Priests.
I love the analogy to the bicycle pump too, that's something so sinister in its simplicity, its a great way of showing us all as subjects and effectively children to be mollycoddled by the government. I liked the image of 'helpless to help ourselves/escape the one room in our minds/that signifies terror' It does feel sometimes like were locked in a room of our minds. The ending is sensational: 'mushroom cloud/big long sigh'. The metaphor of a A-bomb to our minds shows brilliantly the utter devestation such boggie man cause.

The boogie man is alive and well and living on my local news station delivering sordid tales of woe and misery, scaring the beegeebers out of anyone crazy enough to sit and watch it for an hour. This poem made me think, smile and shake my head. I love the analogy of the boogie man using a childs bicycle pump to blow up our minds in fear. after all, doesn't all fear stem from the original bumps in the night? Nice write.
