Rescue of BeautyA Poem by Nancy Lee Shrader
Rescue of Beauty
Twas Spring it was on Devils Bluff, Natalie took the plunge Lost in pain and loss of sleep, she wandered to close to the edge Balance lost, her footing slipped … Falling … Falling… Falling. To raging waters far below, because of his broken pledge
Natalie roamed the Bluff by night, crying in the night Calling out his name in vain, but when no answer came She stumbled off the Bluff, but someone saw her fall A vision she was, a beauty fair, his heart beat a burning flame
Nathan watched in horror as she fell to the raging waters far below He dove into the swirling waves, swimming against the tide Nathan couldn’t allow such beauty to die so young Breathlessly he fought the waves and soon was at her side
Natalie’s beautiful face submerged in the foaming swells He pulled her from the water and watched her life force fade His lips burned hot against hers as he breathed his breath of life Her eyes fluttered, life returned to her beautiful eyes of jade
Nathan realized this beauty he knew well Her father was his mentor for oh so years He remembered her from his childhood And how he always wiped away her tears
No longer the child he once knew She had become a woman in full bloom A delicate rose in his garden of life Now he had the chance to wash away the gloom
