SeasonsA Poem by Nancy Lee Shrader
Seasons Autumn is a fluttering Of orange, red, and gold Whispering through the air Floating on the wind What makes such beauty fall away To be trampled on the ground, Where children frolic In musical crackling sound Bringing smiles and laughter To where imaginations unfold Winter brings a forest Of towering naked trees Menacing branches leaves a chill and Frightened screams throughout the night What makes fearful eyes smile? With delighted wonder After a sleepless night When morning dawns its song Snowflakes glistening, holding tight To trees of crystal ice on the frosty breeze Spring burst forth with flowering seed, A canvass filled with colorful song. Yawning from a silent sleep, To a new birth guaranteed. What makes the seeds come to life? Waking from their winter’s bed Bursting in full bloom From deep beneath the earth Sun’s warm glow, a gentle rain The wakeup call, you’ve slept too long Summer is a time of joyful play When sadness is no more Golden rays shine down Upon the grassy knoll What makes everyone laugh and sing? When the sun beats down all day And sweat beads pop Searching for the slightest breeze A summer’s night on unbroken wing As over the moon the fireflies soar Seasons hot! Seasons cold! But aren’t they perfect everyone? So why do we wish for spring? When winter winds Blow through the air Or when the summer sun blazes hot Should we not open our eyes and see The beauty each season brings us to enjoy Allow our hearts to whisper, Dear Lord, job well done © 2008 Nancy Lee Shrader |
