Babbling BrookA Poem by Nancy Lee Shrader
Babbling Brook Excerpt from Heart Sounds Babbling brook winding slow As if it had nowhere to go Rippling waters soothing song Singing softly all the day long Wolf pack gathers near the brook Their blood lust they’ve forsook A thirst for water leads each nose Pure clean water a sweet repose Mother squirrel at water’s edge Family of rabbits emerge from the hedge Ducks on the water swimming slow Fawn ventures out behind the doe A bear and its cub fishing there Doe rises, sniffs the air Wolf and fox come with their young Wolf pup laps water with his pink tongue Babbling brook the well spring of life The weak and the strong feeling no strife Coming to drink in a communal way Enemies later, but just for today
