Haiku Take Me Out to the BallgameA Poem by Nancy Lee Shrader
Haiku Take Me Out to the Ballgame A summer pastime Take me out to the ballgame Five dollar hotdogs Seats high in the stands Cincinnati Red Sox here Need binoculars Peanuts crackerjacks Stadium children’s’ staples Bought by the boxes Babe Ruth hits homeruns Dad’s tales of old time baseball Roger and Mickey We hear from the stands Batter, batter, Swing Batter And it is strike one A pitching good day It’s one, two, three strikes you’re out Red Sox up to bat Each side needs to win The ninth inning zip to zip World Series or bust Pitcher takes the mound Sends signals to the catcher Wind up, taking aim The batter stands tall Waiting for the perfect pitch Crack! It’s a base hit Two batters hit hard Grounders are hit to the fence Bases are loaded Hear the crowd roar Fourth batter comes to the plate Wow, it’s a Grand Slam Standing ovation Teammates waiting to slap hands All batters come home Three up and three down Pitcher pitched a no hitter Red Sox victory A boy and his dad Watching professional ball Father and son bond His heart beating fast Boy remembers this day It’s a Big League dream © 2009 Nancy Lee Shrader |
