Crossroads

Crossroads

A Poem by Nancy Lee Shrader

Crossroads

Offset by little choices

Life turns on a dime

I stand at the crossroads

At the edge of time

No one is around

I see what I want

Thrill of the moment

I move in nonchalant

My mind sees the outcome

Of the hasty choice I make

Bars are in my future

Not a fun day at the lake

I stop for just a moment

To think things through

The object isn’t worth the cost

This I always knew

I look up to heaven

My mind’s eye sees God’s face

He winks at me as if to say

Choices throughout life’s race

God gave me a discerning mind

Right is right and wrong is wrong

Standing at this crossroads

Temptation made me strong

My choice this time was right

God help me through the next

Help me walk the straight and narrow

And remember my Bible text

Ten Commandments He gave us

And many crossroads to choose

This day I chose the right way

My soul, I didn’t lose

Step back and think things through

At each crossroad down life’s path

You will too make the right choice

Steering away from Satan’s wrath
