Night Approaches

Night Approaches

A Poem by Nancy Lee Shrader

Night Approaches

Night approaches

And the midnight cry is heard

Somewhere in the darkness

A brilliant light is stirred

 The midnight cry is coming

In the blink of an eye

God will call his children

To join him in the sky

Eyes are lifted up in praise

When the trumpet sounds

Many souls are lifted

While other’s fall to the ground

 Too many were not ready

Plenty of time they thought

While others knelt in prayer

Their sins left them distraught

 They are kneeling now

Even though it is too late

Confessing tongues

Will not erase their fate

 Jesus knocked so many times

On their heart’s door

His knocking fell on deaf ears

His love they did ignore

 Come, He whispered

But they refused to hear

Now they stand alone

Gnashing teeth in fear

 Yes, night approaches

A never ending night

Lost in the darkness

Where there is no light

I really like this a lot! I write Christain poetry every now and again and I love the images this poem calls up.! It's vivid and stark and the message is a powerful one! If you're a believer all things are fine if not we'll see you later basically. Great poem it flows well and the use of words is fantastic. Great job!
