Lestat Comes

Lestat Comes

A Poem by Natasha Ashway
"

Walking into Night; True fan of Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles, and Lestat.

"

 Lestat Comes

Sunset; our walkway to nether heaven
In silence I watch its delicate descent
Here comes the dark with its lesser lords of hunger
Under this moon collage I'd diligently dreamt
Here comes Lestat in a cold breath of void light
Suddenly sucking the air from my lungs
Now a true witness to the fall of night
My heartbeat throbs in new form to this song

‘Swallow me and finish me completely
Split me through bone and fiber to the core
I don’t want a lord who will die for me
I want to be utterly, utterly devoured’

‘Immortal kiss fix my spine to the earth
Feed on my pain’s warm rivulets
Drain out goodness, love and ruddy mirth
Crush the voice box of Juliet’

Lestat Takes

He lets her fall at his point of no return
Feather wings pinned down by silver drops
Molten and falling from the smiling scorn
On the marble face of the older, ancient corpse

Watching from beyond the line of trees where I’ve fled
I decide it is time to simply carry on
Drifting far across from the yesterdays that lie dead
Denial has urged; ‘Come away, dreamer, come!’

Lestat laughs loudly, grinning, as I glide farther away
‘Ah, run away, dreamer, run!’ he calls
‘It’s best not to dare wake up; best not to stay
And find out you’re not so alive after all!’

‘I’m too alive!’ I call back to him, yes; despairingly,
‘I rise up and float from the graves; I just can’t stop dreaming!’
Lestat smiles; ‘Then come, dreamer, come,
For in that case you are just like me.’

Lestat’s Offer

Sunrise; our drawbridge to the more ordinary things
Barren without the help of night’s souvenirs
I’ve gathered some to take along on my life journey
And closing realms shrink rapidly as the sun appears

‘Come follow the moon forever with me next time’
Lestat whispers from the spaces behind daylight
He is gone as the blazing sun arrives
But I’ll wait another death, soon, another tonight.

Lestat Comes.

[Fare Well; For Now/Forever? Good Night ;-)]

Author's Note

Natasha Ashway
True fan of Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles, and the Vampire Lestat, I've used symbolism to describe the death, rebirth and renewal of some parts of myself.... scraping the pain out of my heart.
I'm open to your interpretations........ just wrote this during moments of intense sadness and loss. I think I will enter it into 'The Darkness' contest too.

I am a HUGE Anne Rice -- Vampire Chronicles fan. :)
And Lestat -- is my favorite character! :)
It was Louis, until I realized that he
was not as strong as I had once believed.

Back to the poem --

I am soooo pleased to see this.
And it is magnificently written!

"Lestat laughs loudly, grinning, as I glide farther away
'Ah, run away, dreamer, run!' he calls
'It's best not to dare wake up; best not to stay
And find out you're not so alive after all!'

Wow. Afraid to face reality... hiding safely within
the magical walls of our dreams.. stay there...
shhh.... don't move... or we might wake up....

and find that without the dreams,
we are dead inside..
(that was my interpretation)..

This is an outstanding poem!
Beautifully penned....
Brilliant.. thank you!

Interesting. Although I don't know why (it might be the mood I'm right now hehe!) but while I could see the references to death, rebirth, etc, I also saw a hint of sexuality embedded within. Very nice indeed.

Omg Natasha, I am speechless, there is so much going on this piece, that it actually makes your readers mind's wander from time to time, to places where their hearts have actually felt the same.
Great thinking using the whole Lestat concept as a metaphor form trail and turbilations within your own life.
Just loved the gradual "growth" form darkness to light, and yet leaving some space, knowing that the darkness really never is that far away!

Great work my friend, me loved it!
