Skin and Bone

Skin and Bone

A Poem by Neal S

When her silhouette dissolves to shadow
Our finger tips depart, leaving miles between skin and bone
Don’t go far my love
Where my voice may not reach you
In the cool night air my breath warms your face no longer
Like a mist on the breeze I travel to nowhere
Aimlessly drifting
Searching for the heart of my only love

~ ah... what a gorgeous opening line... followed by an equally stunning second line... ~ the rest of the piece keeps up with the opening quite well... (in my opinion)... and again... i relate to the idea of drifting... especially "like a mist on the breeze"...

Beautiful writing, the simple sentence structure works well. I like the sparse use of punctuation, and the personal pronoun as it really draws the reader into the mind of the protagonist. I especially like the second line, and it's link to the title of the poem.

Thank you so much Anna!
Really great love poem that captures those thoughts and desires immediately following a separation either physical or emotional.

You're welcome Neal, my pleasure. :)
A beautiful write Neal, reminiscent of the days of chivalry, fair maidens and princesses. This had an old worldly charm about it, love the wording, the imagery, the vibe.

Very kind Andrew. Thanks a lot man!
I liked the opening lines and the poem became stronger with the powerful statements. Love that dissolved. Can it find life again? Thank you Neal for sharing the excellent poetry.

Thank you. I'm very glad you liked it.
Soft and dreamy, I feel something like this since losing my husband. Sad to think one can no longer hear your voice.Valentine

Awww. Thanks, I'll be okay. :)
Stellar first line! Gorgeous imagery and so consistent, that feeling of drifting is imparted gently. Another lovely piece. R xo
