At the Wedding of My Love

At the Wedding of My Love

A Poem by N.Sevilla
"

A woman attending her lover's wedding

"

Tonight, my love, is the day of your wedding.

The direction everyone knew you were heading.

There would be a smile etched on my face

If I were up there in my rightful place.

But there is some man with you instead.

John, or something. Perhaps it was Ted?

Not that his name mattered at all

When at night it was my name you’d call.

I know he has never heard your throes of passion.

“Waiting ‘til marriage.” Or something of that fashion.

Or so everyone thought, even He.

Everyone, of course, except me.

We, like women of the night, sneaking around,

Wary (and failing) of making a sound.

One would think: “She left you out on the street!”

Was it not in my bed that you warmed your cold feet.

Apparently last night I warmed them up well

As you were at the altar giving your farewell…

…Until I caught a wink you sent my way.

And your parents, none the wiser, from this display.

The twinkle it had under the florescent light,

Letting me know you’ll be in my bed tonight.
