The Maze of Your Mind

The Maze of Your Mind

A Poem by N.Sevilla

Your mind is a maze
That leads to your heart,
With dead ends and traps:
A prison's great art.
A thousand locks
That lead to doors;
The keys in the mazes
Under the floorboards.
Mazes within a maze;
An impossible knot
Scattered with vain attempts
Left there to rot.
A busy ticking clock,
Hiding what's within.
A slowly beating heart
With a layer of ice, thin.
The frost, an anaconda,
Holding tight,
Constricting the warmth
To an eternal night.
The deeper I go,
The clearer I see,
The one path leading
To your heart breaking free.

Simple but good. You express very clearly the meaning in your writing without muddling it with more words than you need. The first time I read through this piece the rhythm was off, but once I read it again it was perfect and unwavering. If I have one suggestion it would be to expand this piece; after each stanza add a few short lines explaining what is going on, almost like a haibun. Use the prose to compliment the poetry.
