Fourth Dimension

Fourth Dimension

A Poem by Pete

Image result for not fitting in

I walk the crooked, soiled streets of the city.
On my way to convene with the maker.
Longing for answers.
I cannot help feeling alone despite being surrounded by humanity.
Sidestepping cardboard cliches, plastic pretense and spurious souls.
I pass by people on the sidewalk in a gauntleted sandwich.
Drowning in an anal retentive aphrodisiac.
I have no reflection in the wry puddles of yesterday's acid rain.

In a cruel game of "Ring Around The Rosie".
Everyone zigs whilst I zag.
I am a prisoner of emotion and wear my heart upon my sleeve.
Where all can see.
I do not fit in.
I cling obstinately to an internal song that never ends.
It is mine and no one can hear it, let alone comprehend it.
My perception goes far around, through and below the surface.
Pardon me as I scurry by and move deeply into a ...
... fourth dimension ...

Being a fool for wilderness living, I have little experience in the beat of the city as you've drummed it here, but I suspect you've got it perfectly spot-on. I enjoy the way your tone sounds a bit sarcastic, as if you're doing a spoof on all our pathetic platitudes & clichés, stating each one with a bizarre twist, almost incomprehensible, but also perfectly logical in a distorted way. Taken altogether, it's like the madness makes us crazy, so then we can understand it better (((HUGS))) fondly, Margie

Trust me...I know.
'I pass by people on the sidewalk in a gauntleted sandwich.
Drowning in an anal retentive aphrodisiac.

Fine, fine writing, language pure, intelligent, but more than anything, emotionally contained... which in my book - makes it honest.

I wonder if writers write so as to some time focus on the people they want to meet or - want to be, Alternatively, tangle and battle with the types the writers want deep, deep inside to dispose of but in real life cannot!!!

TRUE, absolutely.
When one feels disconnected it's quite natural to want to 'fit in' somewhere else, I feel, Pete.
Its the wellspring for those 'imaginary friends' we meet as kids. Perhaps those resistant to being coerced into being a 'norm' are really just super-aware of other possibilities
