if I died

if I died

A Poem by Julie Spade

Give this last word to the great Greek god who opened my eyes wider
My work my pride my glory my legacy
I will not be here long
I feel my time is short
I am not suicidal or scared
I just want my words to be known
A voice to reach out to kiss your lips and forehead
I am gentle and kind
Motherly and smart
Big walls tall as the tallest tree in the world
I will always be my daddy's little girl

If I go I am gone or real sad
In a daze
Or in heaven

Keep me safe in this flight lord
If my string clips by the three sisters give my work a voice louder than sirens

Give my last word to my love and heart
I am Julie spade
An author
A writer
A human being
A child
A lover of Warhol and older men
