Make Me Remember

Make Me Remember

A Poem by redhors

Sometimes I forget I’m not alone.

I don’t feel God or

The angels

Or spirits of ancestors past

Who guide me in my life.

Sometimes I don’t feel anything.

Then you give me a sign

You show me you’re always here.

Often it’s a memory

Of us when we were children

Drawing pictures in the sand

Or pretending to be Indians

Painting our ponies with berries from the ditch.

Sometimes it’s a song you send that only I will understand…

You never fail to show me you’re close and in my heart, in my life.

My true guardian angel-

Your hair is the color of dirty soft spun gold,

Gray eyes flecked with stars on the edge.

I know you follow me everywhere,

Probably catching my heels with your toes

Like you used to

I am thankful

But I didn’t want a guardian angel like this.

I wish you weren’t.

I'm sorry that you are so conflicted. Ringing out happy memories that your guardian angel unravels for you and you being thankful.

Then you do an about face and wish that you hadn't one.
