Forgive to Forget

Forgive to Forget

A Poem by Raven Wilson

Forgive to Forget
The question is: can I forgive you yet?
What you've done,
What you've said.
Is it worth it to forget?
If I harbour this hatred
- let it fester and bleed
will I gain the satisfaction I need?
will I gain the revenge I seek?
Let go and Let live.
Forgive to Forget.
I just can't forgive you yet.
Would you expect any less?
What you did
and What you said
Can I afford it to forget?
If I do
will my soul be absolved?
Is it my soul that needs redemption after all?
Or is it yours-
a creature so vile.
Is it me who is in denial?
Forgive to Forget.
Live and Let go.
Do I ignore all that I know?
Is there a right to this wrong?
Has there been only one answer all along?
To Forgive and Forget
I can't make that decision yet.

I felt all kinds of emotions in this poem. Its funny how we know we
have to forgive to move on, but it almost feels as if are slapped in the
face again by being told that we are not justified in holding on to our
anger.

Its also funny how forgiving is simply letting go of the resentment.
We usually seem to think that we have to go into reconciliation if
we forgive...instead of simply going to a neutral place where the
people who have upset us don't exist anymore.

There is a lot to think about here. Bravo!

Forgiveness comes with time...usually. Not always can we locate the ability in the short term. It arrives as a mature emotion I think.
Very good descriptions and thoughtfilled lines.
