Little Brother

Little Brother

A Poem by Chip Murison
"

Dark humor

"
There is only room for one us
You know that this is true
So I've made a special drink today
Of chalk and dust and glue

So come with me right now
And listen what I say
Sit here in the closet
Cause this is where we'll play

Just drink this little cup
I'm sure you won't get sick
If you drink it really fast
It will kill you really quick

So drink my special drink
Please listen to my voice
There's barely love enough for me
You've left me little choice.

I don't want to hurt you
But surly you must know
There's only room for one of us
So you just have to go.

Bon voyage and pleasant journey
Everything will be just fine
I'll let them know that you have gone...
And...better luck next time.

Note: No little brothers were killed in the making of this poem.
This is a departure for me. I don't usually write in rhyme but this poem is written from the perspective of a four year old so the nursery rhyme feel seemed to work. It's a dark poem about a child's death wish for his sibling which is actually pretty common.

Wow. This poem is fascinating. I love the beat and rhythm, it definitely captures the odd tone of a nursery rhyme. This has a innocent edge to the morbidity and the attitude of the narrator. I usually don't like poems that rhyme, but for this one it fits perfectly. Thank you for sharing.

You got a laugh out loud from me. The rhymes work in this piece and great flow. I'm sure there are a few siblings out there that can identify!

Gee
A ha, this is my cuppa, simple rhyming with a great meter and I like the dark content. I describe all of my poems as childlike as to me they all use bog standard language in simple rhymes. Sweet

This reads like the Brothers Grimm having a face of with Dr Seuss :)
