The Girl

The Girl

A Poem by James Rosecrans
"

She said something she's always wanted to do was ride a hot air balloon. I made her promise she wouldn't go without me, because something I've always wanted to do was ask her to marry me.

"

Calmingly you waited still

Hot air balloons beyond the hills

Rising up high into the sky

You drop the chords we used to tie

Sandbags plunge down, afloat we go

To heavens steps, I hope you know

A ring it drapes there on the chord

So warm it was, the spark it roared

Inflating life into our ride

Like lungs that fill a chest with pride

Vikingly so, I take my knee

Exasperated  longingly

Request I made to take my hand

My last request, to be your man

Sold poem, rhyme and meter were consistent and structurally crucial. Very enjoyable.
