Abandoned Hearts

Abandoned Hearts

A Poem by rosesofgrey

On my way to school one day

I found a heart of stone

The color seemed a lifeless gray

But I couldn’t leave it all alone

On my way to school one day

I found a heart of glass

‘Twas mottled black and castaway

So I plucked it from my path

On my way to school one day

I found a heart of lead

Though I picked it up from where it lay

It seemed already dead

I found a stone heart another day

But it shattered me to find

I couldn’t retrieve the stone heart this day

For this heart of stone was mine
