Close Friends

Close Friends

A Poem by rosesofgrey

You say we are close friends

I say we are strangers, lustful strangers

I know your favorite color, but you don't know mine

Our confidence lies in others

We are constantly annoyed with each other

You with me, in particular

We are enigmas in each other’s gaze

Getting to know each other

But barely scratching the surfaces of our true selves

I do not know your fears, your true hopes

Your loves, your weaknesses, your strengths

Most of all, I do not know your soft side

Nor you mine, any of it

But you say we are close friends

Maybe you are right

After all, you are my closest friend

The one I talk to when loneliness is eating me alive

My hesitant confidante

But in all seriousness, I rather fear,

That once again, I am falling in love with you

A total stranger, who does not want or need my love

For while you are my close friend, I am not yours

I personally relate so much, my friend and I are at this point, and it sucks. I am so sorry you have to go through this as well, you have value believe me, and I know there are people out there who want what you want.
