My Prescription

My Prescription

A Poem by S.C.Wolfe

I can overcome the feelings of depression if only for moments
By closing my eyes and thinking of the way you
Trace words on my skin with your fingertips at night.
I imagine you’re writing the formula to cure my sadness,
Letting each letter sink into my skin straight down to my bones.
It’s silly I know, because you’re only tracing out the words
"I love you" on my back but I’ve discovered that
No doctor can give me a prescription with a side effect
Of pure happiness the way that you can, so
You’ll have to excuse me as I bury my face
Into the spot where your neck meets your shoulders
Because that’s the place I call my home.
It’s familiar, safe, and warm there and I’d like to never leave.
