Grandfather Time

Grandfather Time

A Poem by Shannon Carinne Sparks
"

This is a poem about time.

"

Grandfather Time

The clock ticks!

He’s a madman,

talking to his imaginary friend:

Second Hand who’s always in a hurry?

He always

records the minutes just a little too

loudly, like a drummer who forgot to rush.

The clock ticks!

He’s more meticulous than

the ironed military wife down the street

who dusts the pantry six

times a day,

with that special cleaner

they sell at the antique furniture store.

Sometimes I wish God would

fire him,

So I could sleep… INDEFINATELY,

But he hasn’t yet.

Time keeps typing, like an

obsessed programmer with a deadline

Yesterday.

The clock ticks!

..and yet... we gonna grow old... waiting for the dawn of our time... and the clock ticks... fading..
