Reflection

Reflection

A Story by b.platte

I was in my room minding my own business when I caught her staring at me again. That damn girl in the mirror…always catches me off guard. I walked right up to her with every intention of fixing her tangled heap of hair. As I approached with an easy stride I noticed something depressingly different about her face. An emotionless void now took up the space that used to be filled with so much electricity. The life I used to see dance wildly in her eyes was void of the slightest hint of joy. It was an eerie feeling that washed over me in that instant. Knowing very well, this girl who was intently staring at me with empty eyes, was a mere shell of myself. I mimicked her motion and looked down. My hands were shaking right along with hers. When you lose yourself it sneaks up on you before you know where you’re heading. That, perhaps, is the most terrifying part of it all.
