changes

this time last year

everything was different.

i thought i had it all

i had childlike joy

i had someone i loved

and things to look forward to.

a year changes

a lot of things.

i often get overwhelmed 

thinking of all the changes

and thinking of the changes

still to come.

the future overwhelms me

but at the same time

the future keeps me going.

this time last year

my future had him in it.

but now

it is questionable 

if he is even in

my present.

This is a relationships poem, but it points to one of life's great truths. Everything is changing. The speaker's tone is one of sadness, where previously joy reigned. A year hence it could be back to joy again. Everything is changing; it is our attachment to things that makes that truth so painful.
