A child in age (The Lie)

A child in age (The Lie)

"

This poem actually makes me feel ashamed... I love my Grandfather, but this is all I can think when I visit.

"

A child

He sits there

With the innocence of age

Earnt and lost

In his sunken eyes

In his shaking hands

Unsteady

Cracking

Thoughts draining through the gaps

Craving in his shoulders

As his body slowly empties,

And he sits there,

Crumpled and discarded.

And all I can think of

Is how

I will not end up like him.

Gee
My mum's in an old folks complex and I see this often. Mainly fellas sitting, heads bowed, only acknowledging my hello to blankly stare, say nothing, then eyes, head lowered again. Waiting for death to release them it seems.
Makes you wonder what awaits us.
I like this thought provoking piece Miss Brighton.
