Silence

Silence has the sweetest voice
Your silence and mine
But yours mostly
To me at last ...

Your silence
that wraps me like a blanket in dark and lonely nights
caresses me gently at times when words would cut
or teases me into confessions that had better stayed unsaid ...

Silence has the harshest voice
Your silence and mine

When it parts us like the Iron Curtain in Cold Wars
When it blows in  Arctic winds that let us drift on broken ice
When it sits between us like an angry, fire-breathing dragon

Silence is a potent prayer
your silence and mine
OUR silence
that is a love beyond words
two souls SPEAKING silently
like
one soul
in a monologue with itself

Silence
is my gift to you
and yours to me
Because even in utter silence
we hear the other
sing
weep
laugh
and love.

In such silences
we
are
ONE.
