For the Detached Lover

For the Detached Lover

A Poem by Kailyn Duncan

No one warned her of the immense loneliness

That only came from finding love

In another. The long nights drifting slowly apart,

The universe is endless after all.

“I just need some space.” And so she drifted gently

Down into the translucent atmosphere.

She stripped each part of her suit, helmet first,

Until she was free from the confines

Of tinted glass and insulated, white sleeves

And submerged in the halcyon waters

Of the Earth she only ever saw from three

Days " and with another, away.

Fleeing the vastness of the space they created

She found the familiar emptiness in the depths

Of her own ocean. Reaching up, with only the

            Moon left for aim,

I just need some space.

                        I need some space.

           I need space.
