We Talked

We Talked

A Poem by Sue
"

Unrequited young love.....

"

We talked quite often, you and I

And each time the moment passed quickly by

I wanted to reach out and touch your face

But somehow it seemed so out of place

I must have given myself away

My red face burning, my heart in disarray

That useless love running through my veins

As we played our many stupid games

I lived for every time we spoke

And hoped my love would no longer be a joke

The butt of people’s scoffs and laughter

As I longed for happy ever after

But still I wait each waking hour

As my love continues to gain in power

Yet still I’m very much alone

Shivering, cold, on my own

I love you and I hope you will

One day my every dream fulfil

When finally we’ll love at last

With no fears about the past

(Unrequited love 1986)
