You

You

A Poem by Tessa Melendez

Look but don’t touch

The pain is too much

Seeing you is rarely a touch of luck

My desire for you is too much

Your eyes, your lips

Create a crack in my heart

That needs a stitch

But my eyes may only touch yours in a dart

As I see you each day

I wish you might say…

The sweet things

My aching heart sings

I watch you walk by

Only sparing me a single glance

But I am too shy

To even say hi

Oh, how I wish

My life wasn’t so dark

Oh, how I wish

My mouth would work

Your eyes always find mine

A possible message I wish I could find

But I am too shy

To even say good-bye

As once more

I watch you walk by

My eyes move forward

“Always move forward”

“Even if your heart is dying”

I wonder when the day will come

When my heart will start flying

And my days of wishing will be done

Each time I see you

My heart jumps with desire

But I can only admire

Each time I find you

And each day…

I come home…

And I die…

Slowly…

I love how you described what happens internally when you do not feel you are capable of having someone. I think we all have had our desired directed towards someone that for some reason they dazzle us so much that we just cannot talk or even look at them in the eye. Your writing truly captures that. Thank you for reviewing my piece and understanding the feelings that were put into this writing.
I am pretty shy too, so I can kinda identify myself with this. Too often I suffered because my mouth just wouldn't work. Love the honesty in your writing. :)
