Shy Love

Shy Love

A Poem by Tessa Melendez

I know this piece is gonna sound like a cliche
Like some cute love song from back in the day
Like some Valentine's Day poem tucked into a rose bouquet
But, it's from the heart
I hope that's okay...

I know you're shy like me
With the way you bury yourself in your phone sometimes
And how you constantly keep your earbuds close by
With how calm and quiet you are

I'm told you have feelings for me
My friends catch the looks you send my way
How you hang back until I leave class each day
How you look up when I leave early

But... I never catch all that
You're too slick to catch

I love the teasing games we play
Looking at each other and struggling to keep the smiles at bay
Teasing each other until one looks away
That's where this all began for me

I couldn't help feeling something for you
The boy with the crazy mess of black hair
Lips like a dare
Eyes portraying all openness

The boy with the smile that was all perfection
Steering me always in your direction
A voice so deep and calming
Completely at odds with your teasing and taunting

If only you knew...
How badly I want to kiss that 69 tattoo
How badly I want to run my fingers over those lips...
Just before a kiss

Of course...

First, my crazy friends have to coax you feelings out
Be rid of all doubt
You have feelings for me
That's the only thing I want to hear

Then, I can come to you,
Bottom lip between my teeth,
Look you in the eyes,
And say, "I know.  I have feelings for you too."

There's no need to hide it.

great write. The words work and the flow is really nice. Only one grammar mistake which is good as it doesn't pull people out too much. Keep up the good work!

Thank you so much. :)
It is more than okay to sound like a cheesy love song. More than okay in fact, because cheesy is just another word for not caring about embarrassment, because of how that person makes you feel. So never apologise for feeling cheesy.
You see a lot in common with this person, probably shyness too. That awkwardness of liking someone but not knowing f they like you too. If an old git's opinion is of any use to you, I would say this, that the shy person you see, most likely sees you too and thinks what you think and well, someone has to say it for the other to hear it, and even if it's not what's expected, you will probably at the very least be grateful you did, because one indisputable fact of life is this, the quietest people usually have the most extraordinary things to say, to the person who will listen. so go for it. And tell him he'll be hearing from me if he's dumb enough not to see it's his lucky day :)
