The Nebular Nativity

The Nebular Nativity

A Poem by Kenaz
"

A poem about where stars are born, and the first place I look to at night.

"

Direct thy ken upon the sky,

Gaze out onto his starry belt.

What treks my mind you shall espy

Those lustrous suns where life is dealt.

Bring forth thy focus and thy scope,

Broad across the heavens’ swath,

But always to the hunter’s rope

The giants formed from astral cloth.

Behold the mother and the child,

See the Taurus and Orion,

Whom Erindanus run beside,

Thou art fiercer than the lion.

In all across the speckled night,

Orion brings the most delight.

I have been told from a young age how it is prophesied that Heaven's gate is in Orion's belt. I have believed the Lord will return to this Earth through this pathway in the heavens...
We will see?
It is an interesting place in the sky. We find many questions in this window of the night.
I enjoyed the write and the reminder of this significant Nebula.

What a beautiful poem! I can vividly make out the beautiful stars and the fathomless ocean of the night itself. No words can do justice to the beauty of your words. Bravo!

One small suggestion:

If this is meant to be a Shakespearean sonnet, then each line must be written in iambic tetrameter, meaning, each line has to have 10 syllables in total, with one stressed syllable followed by an unstressed syllable.

Even without these rules, your poem beams with natural genius.

Stars bless you...
I love the musical piece you attached, I had it under one of my poems too....
You've a great taste in music friend!

Your words of your beautiful Sonnet here are really as carefree and dancing like little dust particles around the pure nothingness, observing, still sensible, your brain is, but where is the much needed reversal of the sonnet? halfway? perhaps by the weightlessness it lacked into pure happiness. ;)
Well done, just breathtaking.

Thank you.
This is awesome! Orion is one of my favorite constellations. The night sky during the fall and winter months contain wonderful stories along with splendorous images. I studied astronomy in college, and it's refreshing to see science fused with the arts...especially poetry. Thanks for sharing!

thank you for reading
I see the Blake influence, but, read aloud, hear that something different.

Like the phrase, '..broad across the heavens' swath' - but a wonderful meld of modern and 'ancient' vocabulary throughout.

Fantastic. I love Orion. It is my favorite constellation. I love your verbiage, if I didn't know any better, I would say that this was a Blake poem, or some other Poet from an era past. It has an antiquity- an old soul, an old style. I like it very much. You have drawn a picture of the night that I will enjoy over and over.
