Family Fades

Family Fades

A Poem by A. J. Kingsley

We're told that blood is thicker than water
but blood can still be washed away.

Nothing is eternal
not even the bond of relations.

It may last while we are young
but all bridges left unburned will still decay with time.

The only fondness that comes with distance and absence
is that between ourselves and loneliness.

For the many paths of life often leave us
on a different road than those we hold in our hearts

How grossly cruel of fate
to tie us with lines that will inevitably be cut.
