My life consists of many empty-hearted lists...

My life consists of many empty-hearted lists...

A Poem by Alyssa Dufresne

My life consists of many empty-hearted lists and broken promises
And checking for a pulse between doses of coffee and energy drinks.

My life is a list of things to do -
That will, most likely, never be done -
Until I am brittle and old
And my Youth has lost
and Time has won.

My life consists of stalling, stalling, stalling -
Waiting - Waiting - Waiting for something better to come along.
In the mean time, the drone of computer hums and Headache's drums -
(For my head is pounding)
My tense, stress-knotted muscles and hurting back,
Lack of sleep and the taste of energy drinks and caffeine - bitter as the biting snow
Take their tolls on my mentality.

While fighting the battle to fight back deadlines
and pick up the Left-behinds:
Assignments overlooked or forgotten;
One heavy-pack weighted step after another,

This college kid marches on.
