The Rain

The Rain

A Poem by Amanda Worthington

I lay there
in the soft silence.
Listening.
To the rain,
your soft snores,
the fire going out,
our memories of last night.

And I smile.
For the love
you have given me,
I am grateful.
For the memories
you have shared with me
I will cherish.
Of the demise
you saved me from
I can never repay.
Of the demons
you fought with me
proved your loyalty.

I can't say I deserve you.
You deserve so much better.
But you chose me,
over and over.
