Prepare outdoor grill for covered, direct grilling on med.  Trim tops from 2 lg. fennel bulbs (1-1/4 lbs. ea.).  Cut ea. bulb into 8 wedges; place in microwaveable-safe lg. bowl.  Cover w/ vented plastic wrap.  Microwave on High 5 min.  Drain liquid from bowl.  (Fennel can be microwaved up to 1 day ahead & refrigerated.)  In same bowl, toss fennel w/ 1 tbsp. olive oil & sprinkle w/ 1/4 tsp. salt & 1/4 tsp. coarsely ground black pepper.  Place fennel on hot grill grate.  Cover grill & cook fennel 10 min. or til lightly charred & tender, turning over once.  (This recipe can be doubled easily.)  Serves 4.
