        After she found out what really existed and what Klaus wanted her for, she stole the moonstone and ran for her life before Klaus could use her to break the curse his mother had set upon him. The ritual he had to do to break it involved killing her, killing a werewolf, killing a witch, and killing a vampire.
        After arriving at the cabin where Rose was staying at, and after she found out that Rose wanted to send her back to Klaus, she attempted to kill herself but Rose fed her her blood. Then, when Rose and Trevor were arguing, she took the chance and she hung herself. 
        Later, she woke up in bed in transition and when Rose tried to stake her, she put the old woman who owned the cabin in front of her, which resulted in Rose accidentally staking the woman instead. Then Katerina fed and apologized, but fled from sight. 
        When Katerina found her Bulgarian village, it was a massacre. Klaus had slaughtered her entire village, including her family, just to get back at her for running and escaping him. After weeping over her mother, she fled, but in 1498, she went back to Bulgaria to search for her long lost daughter, but she couldn't find her, so she gave up looking for her. 
        Sometime along the way, she made friends with a witch named Emily Bennett and two vampires named Pearl and Anna, who were mother and daughter. 
In 1864, when she arrived, her vampire and witch friends went with her. Before the raid, they were the ones who suggested that they leave, but she didn't want to, saying that she had a plan all planned out. And she did. She faked her death and left Mystic Falls behind until 2009. 
        During her time in Mystic Falls, she was the one who was responsible for Tyler triggering the werewolf curse and Caroline turning into a vampire. She did other things, but when Klaus came to town, she stopped and began to go to having a low profile. She didn't want Klaus to find her, afraid that he might kill her when he found out that she was in town. He did find out, but he never killed her. He was too much into doing what he could to break the curse, which he succeeded in when he temporarily killed Elena. 
        A couple years or so later, Katherine left after they failed to kill Klaus and she ended up in Pennsylvania, where a few in Elena's circle of friends and such plus Rebekah followed after, trying to get the cure for vampirism from her. 
        In the end, she gave the cure to Elijah who later broke up with her, but after some turn of events, one involving her and Elena fighting in the high school hallway, the cure got shoved down her throat, which turned her back into a human. She never called Elijah, so he doesn't know what happened to her or that she was ever in any danger. Klaus and Rebekah knew about it, but never told Elijah. 
        In the end, she died and was sent to a prison world, though everyone alive thinks that she was sent to Hell. 
        After three years, Katherine finally escaped from the prison world and Kai.
