Continuous Serial?

I'm toying with an odd idea and I'm curious what you writers think...

In the past, I've released a few of my stories as serials. This was a lot of fun for me and I think for the readers too. I would put up a new chapter every week, or some pages every few days. Readers would visit my blog regularly and see where the story was going...

I'm getting ready to release my next story. The text is completely written and I'm considering automating the serial -- so instead of a new chapter every week, the server would put up a new word every few minutes, releasing the text at approximately the same rate as a chapter every week. :)

It sounds silly, I know, but here's the fun part... My thinking is that if my readers enjoy the story, having the end of the text always being so ragged (mid-sentence and all) that they might be more likely to purchase the PDF instead of waiting for more to come out.

Evil? Perhaps, but it's getting tough to get anyone to buy a story. I thought it might be a fun experiment.

What do you lot think?
