Now Familiar Territory..by Michael

Betty was driving upstate New York in unfamiliar territory. She was on her way to a first time visit at a summer resort as the GPS monitor in her gave directions. The thirty four year old reached a railroad crossing as an audible alarm was heard not too far ahead of her. A long wooden arm slowly descended as a red light began to flash. She was running late for check in time and decided to speed up and beat the lowering arm to cross the tracks. Her car stalled as the oncoming train blared its horn. The door handle wouldn't open and she was trapped inside her car as the train got frightfully closer. Another car behind her noticed the deadly situation and immediately got out to try to help her. His elbow busted out the driver side window and he managed to open her door. The stranger yanked her out of the car as ten seconds later the train demolished what used to be her vehicle. Barney introduced himself as she thanked him for saving her life. He happened to going to the same summer resort as he offered a ride for the both of them to get there. They checked in a little late and then spent the rest of the day together buying lost luggage and items needed for the two week stay. A room was eventually shared by the now happy and unexpected couple. An extended stay for the rest of the summer was put on his credit card. Barney and Betty found an alternative route two years later. A place where they would spend their honeymoon without having to cross any railroad tracks....Maybe fate or destiny has one driver behind another in a time of need. Their destination is fulfilled for not only a first time, but a second one as well.....Case in point in a short love story about Betty and Barney, now familiar territory....
