Reviewing...18 Years AgoThis thread is to challenge other group members to think/write/describe their own personal rules when it comes to their art of critiquing, if not just for the benefit of myself and members who may or may not have poor habit. A few of mine: I try to refrain from using "you" or the name of the writer in the review. I try to use literary terms often while not being too general. I do not just say great, good or anything else linked in the thesaurus under such a definition unless being as precise as possible, maybe even down to the period. I believe pointing out strong points by using the word "great" only depreciates my own creativity as a critic. When I am reviewing, I AM a critic. Not an ego booster or brown-noser. I make a point to show the weaknesses in every work. Nobody's perfect and even Hemingway had an editor. To those who've been able to read thus far, thanks. I really hope to read some of your own practices and/or thoughts on mine...
