It can't turn any blacker (complexion controversy)18 Years AgoLately there has been talk about the "dark skin man" being some type of trophy these days. Word has it, light skin brothers are out of style. I love my black men regardless, but I am glad to see the double chocolate ones representing.
But my question to Black America is: When will it be the dark skin sisters turn to shine? Since I was a little it seems as if I had to be the dark understudy to the redbones. I was made to feel as if black was unattractive and some type of curse.Never do you see dark skin Barbies, or a dark skin leading lady in a movie or music video. Why are us darker females considered highly attractive if we have "good hair", a slim nose, or a banging body? Tell me if you're guilty for ever saying this: "She's cute for a dark skin girl". You never here people say "She's cute for a light skin girl". I've researched some males mind and I learned that when they say a woman is fine who fair skin is, they judge from her face then on down. But when it's a dark skin female, they judge by the body. I'm not saying all males think this way Oh yeah... I don't consider the brown complexion females dark skin.. ::confused:: ::confused:: |

I don't consider the brown complexion females dark skin.. ::confused:: ::confused:: I agree with you completely on this...Me and my friend were talking about it a couple of days ago. My best friend is half black and Cuban, but she has a brown complexion. The rest of her features are hispanic. She's really pretty, but guys will pass her up and try to talk to me because I'm what they call 'red boned'. I don't know why black people are still so obsessed with skin complexion. What is the big deal? I remember my grandmother (who's bi-racial) used to tell me that I needed to stay out of the sun because men don't like 'darkies'. WTF? It wasn't until I was a teenager that I realized how people from that time thought about skin color. I really think that we need to stop thinking in tones of color. I think that the 'redboned' trend is more about a black girl having Caucasian features. Thus, you have women like Beyonce, Halle Berry, Stacy Dash, etc. They all have European features. When we put dark skinned women down, I feel like we're telling them it's not ok to look like what we really are, which is African American. But, I am proud of Pharrell. In a couple of his videos he had a leading dark skinned girl. I don't know. I think I'm starting to ramble. |
