With Fries And A Toothpick..by Michael

Johnny drove back to his old neighborhood for a visit. Before he got to the original block he used to live on, his old public school appeared on the right side of his car. That was made him stop and park. His memories of childhood friends flooded his mind as he got out his car and just looked around. Diagonally across the street was an old luncheonette he used to go to. Johnny remembered his favorite lunch from way back when and decided to have it once again. He ordered his French fries which used to be served in a brown paper bag with a toothpick to eat them with. Naturally it was now served in a different way, on a dish with a fork. Janice came in shortly after he did and sat on the stool next to him. She ordered the same lunch. He was told that she drove back to her old neighborhood and spotted a public school she used to attend. Then she saw her old favorite luncheonette. A former sweetheart from grammar school showed up at the same as they were very excited to meet once again. Johnny and Janice returned from the restrooms and sat down on their stools. The now two forty year olds were no longer their respective age. Two thirteen year olds now sat on the stools and smiled at each other. They took their brown paper bags of French fries with them as the toothpicks helped finish the rest of their lunch. Johnny and Janice never moved out of the old neighborhood. Fifteen years later two twenty eight year olds got married. At the wedding table there were some brown paper bags and two toothpicks with an old favorite lunch of French fries....Maybe a visit to where we used to grow up has a special meaning and purpose. Case in point in a short love story about Johnny and Janice, where we take out a brown paper bag with fries and a toothpick.....
