The Games That Adults Play

The Games That Adults Play

A Poem by sivan

Your touch,

A melody,

Synchronized beautifully

To me.

Gestures assembled,

Half-heartedly,

Felt entirely

By me.

I am not afraid-

Do not fear my dear

For falling will not equate to pain

This time

Your heart shall remain

Intact.

I know

You’ve known the feeling

To be a chore and

To be revealing

And preserving yourself in your current composure

Is safer than exposure

To the paperwork

Involved in this sort of business.

The risks are high

I know this to be true.

I’ve loved and lost

And loved

Before you

See we’re no different in the eyes of

This game

The rules apply to each and everyone

The same

And the road we’re on is no quiet lane.

Instead a freeway is the only route

And speed limits are in place for safety reasons

But I’ll love you

Through all four seasons.

Tremendous talent has been poured into this. That much I can be certain of. It was a pleasure to read.
