Why and If

Why and If

A Poem by V.J.C.

Why and if,
such simple words.
Spoken in confusion,
Uncertainty at best.
So what are their meanings?

How did they become,
where is their birthplace?
Should I even care,
the answer appears unclear.

Life is an ever changing thing,
not slowing down,
nor turning around.
So stopping would be unwise,
Right?

Uncovering the past,
a foolish task.
Forward is where we are heading,
so why not follow like the rest?
So many emotions fly through my mind,
of what was and could have been.

Kneeling down I look upon the earth,
such a long history.
The stories she must hold,
of the joy and anguish that she had to bare.
My mind keeps on swirling,
Of the unknowns that are sure to be there.

Here I am now,
a world of chaos.
That misguides the straying eye,
I believe I am blind.
For I have seen everything for what it truly is,
and now I wish to go back,
back in time.
To ask the questions of why and if.

Thought-provoking write and expressive of Humanity's eternal question "why" and Regret's nagging wish "if". The poem goes from Life to the history of earth, and relates pondering queries that have no real or plausible explanations. As you stated "Uncovering the past, a foolish task, " is an overwhelming work even historians fail to complete. Such vagaries turn full circle and the poem ends with the same premise at the start, "to ask the questions of why and if." Nicely written.

You have know idea how much this touches my heart!! Tears are felt...this is so beautifu!... the questions we ask within our hearts, the whys and ifs... will we ever get an answer? The music adds to the tone of this piece. Lovely work!

This is an outstanding poem! It reflects such deep emotions and thought many never slow down enough to ask. You are a true gift to many of us that never slow down enough to ask simple questions (why and if) regarding such deep matters. Amazing job...again!

Oh my, what an outstanding way to ponder!
