The sun surrenders to the night

The sun surrenders to the night

A Poem by Kat-Marie Berti

The sun surrenders to the night

Forgetting the memories of life

A day filled with light and love

Transforms into shadows and pain

Masked away deep in the darkness

Where no eyes can see the truth

The tears fall down upon the ground

From the weary souls of the innocent

Who beg for the ability to forgive and forget

But there is no one to answer their prayers

What does this poem ask? For me it is the big WHY. Why must bad things happen to good people? Why does it seem that the meek will never inherit the earth? Why are there the multitudes of "Weary souls" in this world? Why must we be made to suffer?
Another writer on this site, Todd Bailey, mentioned that we are tempered in life by adversity, just like steel is strengthened by constant heating and cooling. And that all of us are, "a work in progress," in this thing called life.
This poem made me explore these feelings in myself, and drew me out. Nicely done!

For me the first two lines, are the poem itself...breathtaking!

This, in my opinion, is the classic tale of good vs. evil. Light vs. dark. "A day filled with light and love, transforms into shadows and pain." With light comes peace and prosperity, but pain and suffering follows the darkness. And I'm sorry, but the last line is awesome. I love it. "No one to answer their prayers". Nice ending.

This is beautifully written and I can't believe I haven't read your stuff sooner. I really enjoyed this piece.

apocolyptic, dark and chaotic. this explores the black heart of life. good stuff, i like to feel in the putrid pit of entropy from time to time too.

Makes you take another look at the sunset. I like how in so few work you characterize all those feelings.
Good job.

Wow your words are hard hitting... sometimes faith in ourselves is hard to hold onto and without it faith in others can't be found... very profound piece.

How can you forgive if you can't forget? People say it but when you get hurt badly you can never forget..... at least I don't think so..... great poem.
