'A Stitch In Time Saves Nine' It's Said

A silly thing about an old popular saying that always irritated me because of its discordant 'rhyme.' Since I never could get past that part of the poem, the meaning was of secondary import...

‘A stitch in time saves nine’ it’s said,

And that’s a maxim wise -- 

But notice:‘time’ and ‘nine’ don’t rhyme...

Has not such crime disguise.

And furthermore, might I remind --

That time be immaterial;

Thus not to mend -- unless intend

Miracle ethereal.

How scary it is to think of time as being held together by something as fragile as a simple stitch... And what of those nine being supposedly saved? The nine planets of our solar system perhaps... A cosmic battle between space, and time. Some will argue that Pluto is not a planet, leaving only eight... The stitch of this thought is coming apart then... and we're back to square one! ;) A great write David, well done!
